Before and after

    Frequently Asked Questions

Hydroseeding, also known as hydromulching or hydrospriging, is an affordable way to have a lush yard. Hydroseeding has quickly become the preferred alternative to installing Sod.

Installing sod creates seems and unevenness, while hydroseeding grows naturally into the ground making an even layer. Hydroseeding is also 4 times cheaper than sod.

    Eltoro Zoysia (hybrid)

    • Most common
    • Most comfortable
    • Grows in fast
    • Good root structure
    • Does alright in shade, but not as good as St Augustine.
    • Does not hydroseed but hydrosprings/hydromulches because it is a hybrid (must use stolons/root-cuttings)

    St Augustine (hybrid)

    • Wide blade
    • Does better in shade
    • Water tolerant
    • Slow growth
    • Strong root structure
    • Can handle animals

    Bermuda grass

    • Strong and durable
    • Fast growing
    • Animals like to eat it
    • Used for most golf course fairways

    Seashore Pestpalm

    • Hardest to maintain
    • Most professional looking
    • Can’t use herbicides for weeds
    • Used for most putting greens

    Preparation

    • To hydroseed you must first have a good preparation--the better the prep, the better the outcome.
    • All weeds and rocks must be taken out while leveling out the grade for proper height, and top soil or compost should be added to enhance growth of grass.

    Irrigation

    • A timed irrigation system that has complete coverage increases the chance of a successful hydroseed. Areas that aren’t getting water will not live.
    • For the first 2 months, the hydroseeded area will need to be watered heavily 4 times a day for 15 mins (depending on pressure and coverage you can adjust watering).
    • You want a black algae/moss to grow! It means your watering correctly and it creates the best environment for grass to thrive.
    • Once the hydroseeded area is established, you can reduce the amount of time you water.

    Fertilizing

    • Fertilizing every 2 weeks is crucial for growth (10-30-10 for the first 3 months).
    • Weed and feed can also be used.

    Weeds

    • Weeds will grow in
    • DO NOT be tempted to disturb the hydroseed for the first month.
    • After the first month, bigger weeds can be pulled, and there are also various herbicides you can use that can kill the weeds but not the grass.
    • When the grass becomes established, it will choke out the majority of the weeds.
    • DO NOT use round up after hydroseeding. It will kill everything in the area.
